Online Tech Brings Colocation and Managed Dedicated Servers Together
Analysts tend to divide the dedicated linux server hosting market into categories: dedicated servers, collocation and cloud computing. In reality, however, the server hosting industry is composed of a range of hybrid solutions and services. A lot of clients want to leverage these services from a single data center provider if possible. OTManage, the newest service by Online Tech aims to bridge the gap between managed dedicated servers and collocation through a hybrid solution.
OTManage is designed to provide turnkey server management that caters to collocated servers at a monthly fee. The service will feature the same level of support that clients get from managed dedicated servers. This will reduce and even do away with the hassle of daily server management for collocation servers, thereby freeing the IT staff and enabling it to deal with higher value-add matters instead of managing their servers daily. OTManage will come with round the clock monitoring, remediation, troubleshooting, unlimited tech support, patch management, configuration support and capacity monitoring to name a few.
We see the market as something that features a spectrum of solutions instead of an either-or scenario between managed and collocation servers, says Online Tech President Mike Klein. He explains that OTManage will focus on bridging the gap between the managed dedicated and collocation servers that a lot of its clients are looking for.
The IDC or International Data Corporation says that the total cost of ownership for servers is seven times the cost of software and hardware combined. According to its research, 60 percent of the said cost is allocated to server management. Online Tech and other similar managed data center providers can offer their management services cost effectively and lower TCO because they have the ability to share server hardware, infrastructure and engineering solutions across numerous clients and servers.
